Cindylue,
It is always difficult to determine cause of a physical symptom without being able to see it, hear it, feel it. However, I can guess at a few ideas:
The most probable issue is probably driveline or axle related. Is your Explorer a 4x4 or All Wheel Drive model? Have you had recent tire service? A transfer case issue could be present if you say yes to both those questions.
You could have a rear differential issue also. You could have a universal joint (U-Joint) issue on your driveshaft.
You could have a wheel bearing worn out - these are somewhat common. You could have uneven tire wear in a choppy pattern causing the noise and vibration.
If 4x4, your front auto locking hubs may not be released.
You could have an automatic transmission issue, internally.
Those are places to start -- good luck!
