1992 Pontiac Grand Am

Question: what would make my car not start at times.

when I have been driving it awhile sometimes it wont start, wont turn over, nothing..all the lights come on ..but not sound of any kind...after a while it will start like a new car...what could be causing this?

    might be a neutral safety switch. Try starting with shifter in neutral position. Even though it still might not start, it may still be this switch. Might also be theft deterent system.

    I had this problem with a 1995 Grand AM 3.1 and it turned out to be a loose ground wire on the frame that is above the radiator and near the center. I first replaced the neutral safety switch which was medium difficulty but did not fix the problem.

    my 2001 grand am doing the exact same thing...garage said the body control module is going bad...

    Put a bottle of Lucas gas treatment in your gas tank this solved my problem

    it could be a loose or damaged internally battery cable . if the battery is not mounted securely or loose , it could be moving around and causing your battery cable to move also .
