1999 Ford Escort

Question: What would make a car stop while driving? but the radio, lights, etc was still on.

Visitor, 2.0L 4 Cylinder SOHC, Huntsville, AL, July 27, 2010, 13:32

When I try to crank the car it makes the sound likes its trying to crank but doesnt turn over. Has a new battery.

    Have the battery tested at your local shop or auto parts store that you purchased it from as a battery can fail at any time. If that checks out then check the battery cables for corrosion and make sure they are tight.

    I would say the timing belt broke , thats my guess, thats the way mine broke , while driving , bingo it didn't want to start up and sounded like the battery was a bit low .
