1993 Honda Accord Question: what would cause my car to intermitely start and suddenly shut off while driving

 Rookie

I have changed my fuel pump and ignition coil. Took off the distributor cap and something was loose on inside cliped it back in didnt start right off but then ran great for a lil while then shut off again.

    POSS BAD DIST IT IS VERY COMMON FOR THEM TO GO BAD

    If you found something loose, it is quite possibly broken and needs replacement of the distributor. The piece you found loose before is probably loose again.

    THE BLACK SHIELD UNDER THE ROTOR BUTTON IS WHAT YOU ARE TSLKING ABOUT I THINK. YOU PROB. KNOCKED IT LOOSE
    WHEN YOU TOOK THE CAP OFF.AS THE DISTRIBUTORS GIVE SOME TROUBLE SO DO IGNITORS.
    IF YOU CAN CATCH IT WHEN IT WILL NOT FIRE UP DUE TO NO SPARK, REMOVE DIST. CAP AND CHECK FOR BATT. VOLTAGE ON BLACK AND YELLOW WIRE, IF PRESENT REPLACE DIST. IF NOT WILL NEED TO DWELL TEST IGNITOR. BUT YOU WILL NEED A REPAIR GUIDE FOR THIS.

    Poss. 'MAIN' relay under dash. to check this , at a time that it won't start, turn the key to the 'run' position and watch the 'check engine' light. If the relay is not the problem , you should hear a light click when the check engine light goes off(about 15 sec.). If you don't hear a click , it's likely you have a bad main relay.

    BEST ANSWER:
    I FORGOT ABOUT THAT RELAY, THE DIST. OR IGNITOR AREN'T LIKELY TO BE SO INTERMITENT,EITHER GOOD OR BAD!
    BUT STILL POSSIBLE.
