What would cause my 1998 vw beetle check engine light to blink? on 1998 Volkswagen Beetle

It also is shaking,does not want to go over 60mph, and acts like it's going to stall out. someone please help! I just bought tthis vehicle 2 months ago. I just had the fuel sensor replaced about 3 weeks ago, coolant flush, new air filter, and oil changed.

you most likely have a misfire and blinking light is telling you that you may cause more damage if you continue to drive.
A blinking CEL means that there is a misfire that is damaging the catalytic convertor...have that misfire fixed so you don't have to spend extra money on an expensive repair later.
