1998 Volkswagen Beetle Question: What would cause my 1998 vw beetle check engine light to blink?

A blinking CEL means that there is a misfire that is damaging the catalytic convertor...have that misfire fixed so you don't have to spend extra money on an expensive repair later.

you most likely have a misfire and blinking light is telling you that you may cause more damage if you continue to drive.
