What type of oil should I get to top-off? on 2003 Volkswagen Passat

Lost the user's manual, and have been unsuccessful and finding the info off of Google. The dipstick looks like the oil level is low (not registering on the middle hash marks between the two orange pieces--if I did it correctly). I need to take it into a mechanic to have a previous repair looked at (in which both valve cover gaskets were replaced because they were leaking oil, done about 3 months ago), but I want to be able to drive it for the next couple days in the meantime without doing any kind of damage to the engine.

A Volkswagen DEALER might know the specs , if it's not on the oil fill cap.
