2005 Jaguar S-Type Question: what to do when Lurch occurs when you halt

denks, V6, Los Angeles, CA, August 06, 2009, 01:22

So I bought an 05 S Type today (39k miles) All's well until I noticed a lurch (Jerk) when the car comes to a halt.

In other words, when coming to a halt from normal driving. Once the car stops it lurches momentarily.

it sounds like your electronic idle control is surging, when you come to a stop. Any check engine lights on? ( see www.repairpal.com/check-engine-light) you need to have your Jag properly scanned and then the problem traced Good Luck Pat at RepairPal is very experienced with Jag. Patrick Mannion is his name. email him at the site.

There are a series of TSB's (service bulletins) on this from Jag. I suggest you go to www.thelurch.com (yes this lurch inspired a web-site) to get the list. Then find a service company who is up to date on the suggested computer adjustment needed as the best one only came out last year (2009). I have a 2003 4.2. Interesting to see that with all the complaints of this issue it still exists on a 2005.
