1988 Silverado Short Bed Pickup - 5.7L 350 V8. Had a gear blow out the cover, but rear end did not lock up. No tag or stamp found on the rear axle either. Any one have an idea on the Gear Ratio so that I can start looking for parts?

    IS THIS A 4X4?
BEST WAY IS TO DIVIDE THE NUMBER OF TEETH ON THE PINION (SMALL GEAR) INTO THE NUMBER OF TEETH ON THE RING (BIG GEAR.)
ANOTHER IS CALL THE DEALER WITH VIN. NUMBER. NOW, IT IS STAMPED ON THE AXLE TUBE EITHER ON THE TOP OR IN FRONT BUT I DON'T REMEMBER WHICH SIDE.
HARD TO FIND WITHOUT A "GOOD" CLEANING. IF NOT A 4X4 THEN YOU HAVE MORE OPTIONS AS TO GEAR
RATIO. MIGHT WANT TO JUST REPLACE ENTIRE DIFF. WITH SALVAGE UNIT.

Awesome, that's what I read up on originally to count teeth. It is 4x4. Was thinking about replacing differential entirely if my mechanic recommends it. He's busy and asked the ratio, so was hoping maybe somebody knew having a similar truck to mine. Thank you, looks like I'll count some teeth or get ahold of the dealership.
