Question: what is the part called when they say you need a transmission clutch replaced

car halts and whines upon take off or during driving - the r p m guage jumps up quite far -- transmission clutch?

    Your auto trans does have clutch plates in it that would be replaced during a rebuild. If not comfortable ask for better explanation or ask a friend for another shop recommendation to get another estimate.

    I have the same problem, only that it drives and driving jumps in a lower speed and rpm @ 3000 i have to pull over, turn off the engine for 1min and it will start again good. i will try the shifter cable and speed sensor tomonrow.
