Question: what is the cause of exhaust noise?

 Rookie

The repair shop believes the noise is a transmission leak. They can send it out for repair or swap it out. They did not give an estimate for either service. The noise only occurs when the car is accelerating? Please advise

  Without hearing the noise it is really difficult to have an educated response to this. A leaking transmission leaks fluid, it doesn't make noise. Is oil leaking onto the exhaust?
