2005 Chevrolet Trailblazer Q&A

2005 Chevrolet Trailblazer Question: what is causing my exhaust manifold to crack?

we have a 2005 chevy trailblazer and we are getting ready to replace the 2nd exhaust manifold in 2 years. what is causing it to crack?! -
Answer 1
High heat would cause the manifold to crack. Is the vehicle running lean? Any DTC's? How's the vehicle run? How is fuel economy? Does the exhaust smell funny? -
Comment 1
no to all questions and fuel economy is fair and i should add that it has never registered above normal temps on the guage -
Comment 2
I got nothing else for you right now, sorry. Like pushrod mentioned, it could be low quality part or installation issue, but I don't know. I'll let you know if I come up with anything else. -
Answer 2
Low quality part, incorrect torque/sequence or improper gasket is my guess. Crack at the same place each time? Is the rest of the exhaust system secured properly? -
Comment 1
yes exact same place -
Comment 2
Hum.... where did the replacement come from? -
Comment 3
stoystown auto parts. a very large auto part business in our area. it was a "new" a/m part -
Comment 4
I put 3 am's on my Corolla that did the same thing! Got a used one from salvage, no more problems! Now that was MY experience. Just saying. -
Comment 5

I replaced my manifold on my 2008 Trailblazer at 71,000, got the part from O'Reilly's. Now a year later and 91,000 it's cracked again in the same place. What's the problem? -
