I have replaced the transmission thinking it was bad so I bought a new one still had the same issue. I took that used trans back and bought another thinking maybe I had bad luck and bought a bad one. After the second trans my truck still will not shift into third gear. What else could my problem be? Third gear needing to be replaced?

Bad VCM (vehicle control module) or possible wiring issue to the transmission. Any codes stored? Lights on?

All the lights work and all the alarms. I am not so sure about the codes though. How would I check that? I really am thinking it is a wiring issue as well. Is it hard to re-wire a vehicle?

Yes and no. You would need the service manual with wiring diagram, and the (correct) new terminal ends. The reason I would say yes, is that if you have to re-wire the whole transmission plug all the way to the VCM, that takes a lot of time and materials and skills (not to mention the special tools). If you tested all the circuits first though and found the problem wire(s) and only had to re-do those, not too bad to do. If you are not a person who does electrical work on cars regularly though, I would seriously take it to a shop (preferrably the dealer for this problem) for diag and repairs. At the dealer I work at in Oakland, CA we tend to do quite a few wiring repairs like re-stringing sensors and modules. If I were you, I would go to the dealer and order the connector pigtail that plugs into the transmission externally. It should come with all the terminals in it already, and should have leads of wire attached. I would replace that first and see what happens. Whatever you do, don't use butt connectors to splice the new wires in (even though they are supplied in the pigtail packet). Solder the connections and use heat shrink wrap to seal them. GM has put out bulletins about issues arising when using butt connectors. Let me know what you decide to do. I can send you the wiring diagrams from the factory if you give me your email address. My email is ChevyASE@aol.com
