car ran hot and belt came off
what do i do about my tarus running hot and belt coming off? on 2000 Ford Taurus

Its more likely the belt came off then the car overheated. Replace the belt and be sure deflection is at or less than one half inch. Adjustment is very important, not only to keep thing turning, but to keep the bearings in all your pulleys from overheating from being to tight. Chilton makes a great Motor manual for you car and you should be able to find it at most auto parts stores. Cost is about $30.00. Goodluck
The tensioner could be shot too.
