My truck is a 5 speed standard, 86000km. Ford tech said it was fine to drive, now he says clutch is chattering in 1st gear, but all transmission parts look new. (Clutch and pressure plates all good)

Question: what damage can a rear main seal leak cause? Heard grinding under the truck.

JourneymanIf that rear main is leaking bad enough it can get oil on your clutch. Just like if your brake fluid leaks on your brake pads they become contaminated, the same can happen with the clutch. The chattering would really be more of a slipping of the clutch if this is the case. The oil is making the clutch slip. The chatter is coming from when it grabs friction and stops slipping. How much oil are you leaking? Does the chatter happen more with engine speed or vehicle speed?
