A leaking heater core will result in coolant leaking on the passenger floor mat and steam coming out the dash vents or a sweet smell inside the car. A leaking coolant radiator will leave a pool of coolant under the front of the car.
The way an automotive shop would locate the leak is by removing the radiator cap and attaching an adapter that screws on in place of the radiator cap. Something that looks like a bicycle pump with a pressure gauge attached to it is used to "pump up" pressure to simulate pressure generated when the cooling system is at operating temperature, the leak is then found sometimes it is obviously leaking from a coolant hose or cracked housing, failed gasket or water pump, sometimes the engines cooling system needs to be inspected from below or inspected using a mirror and flash light.

If you know the radiator is leaking fix that first. Maybe the heater core isn't leaking after all. But if it is you may be able to see coolant coming out of the evaporator drain tube under the car.

    Hi

You will need to pressure test the radiator to tell if this is leaking before yot replace. It's cheaper to be sure first with a test.
