1998 Chevrolet S10 Question: What causes gas tank to make a poping sound?

DONNAKOALA, 4.3L V6, Fort Gay, WV, June 23, 2011, 19:03
 Rookie

at different times I smell gas fumes. I hear a popping sound come from the gas tank. I can be parked and it running and it pops or a few minutes after turning off engine I will hear a pop from the gas tank. Does anyone know why it is popping? Has anyone else had this problem? thanks Donna

    expansion and contraction. you have a problem with the evap system that is allowing this to happen.

    take it to a shop and have them check this for you.

    thank you Roy, yes I will take it to a shop for them to look at it. Will this problem also cause vehicle to use more gas? Thanks Donna

    no, not really. let a shop help you. make sure you ask that question and have them look at it for you.
