2005 Kia Sorento Question: what causes crankshaft not turning after resetting time

 Rookie

will only turn 1/4 turn right or left then it stops. just replaced water pump on 2005 kia sorento v6 3.5 l

    THIS IS AN INTERFERENCE ENGINE and it is NOT in time!! Piston(s) hitting valve(s)!! DO NOT TURN THE ENGINE OVER, get some help before you bend the valves, or worse! If, IF it has not done so already,,, YOU ARE LUCKY!!

    this engine is what is referred to a interference engine which means if the crankshaft and camshafts are out of time for any reason that pistons can come in contact with the valves. if this happens with much force the valves are usually bent. when timing belt is removed there are critical positions that all components should be set to and engine not rotated until belt has all items aligned
