Question: What can I do about this Acura dealership?

Question

I had my car in for repair at the Acura dealership in Springfield, NJ. While it was there the car was hit and damaged, resulting in $1675 worth of repairs -as estimated by the company that does their body shop work. This happened six months ago. The manager there asked me not to report the matter to the police or insurance, (even though I reported it to my local police after leaving the shop and discovering the damage shortly before I arrived home) and said they would take care of it. They didn't want to pay cash, claiming they didn't know it happened there (tho of course I am sure they did know). I offered to swap mechanical work which I needed done, but they only want to do work for less than the amount of $1675. I'm really furious with them, having waited all this time to find out they are scheming, gaming people. Has anyone else had any dealings with this dealership, and what do you suggest is the best course of action?

did you get anything in writing??
I would get a statement in writing or else go to the principles of the dealership and tell them of the empty promises you have recieved from the service manager.
if you get no satisfaction, call the insurance company and file with the police. you will need all the facts and statements that were made to you. make sure you are very clear in your complaint.
it sounds fishy what they are doing and it is time to stop messing around. 6 months is a long time.
give him one last chance to pay up before you proceed. write everything down about this last conversation.

Hi Roy, thanks for your response. Unfortunately, the only thing I got in writing was the body work estimate, the original manager has left, and now another manager - whom I did meet with once along with the original manager, has taken over. Same BS though.

This manager keeps saying he wants me to get another estimate of the mechanical repairs, because it was six months ago that I got the original estimates, and now something else maybe wrong. Needless to say, I can't make it up in my mind to trust them; they may inflate repair costs so they will have to do less, or so that I might have to come out of pocket with money. When it comes to repairs, this dealership charges higher prices than any of the others. I admit I'm having second thoughts about even having them touch my car again.

So you're saying that I should contact my insurance company, or theirs? My insurance company will probably pay, but then my premiums are now going to go up.

if the dealer was at fault, then the dealer insurance will pay back your company. explain to your company what happened.
as far as the reapirs, get an estimate from another dealer for the repairs and take it back to these guys along with the diag fee and use that to insure they are not bsing you.
