Question: What can cause serious leaking of antifreeze?

 Rookie

The service light said to check engine temp and the gauge read hot hadn't went over 5 miles. Leaking extremely badly on way home but yet there was still liquid in the radiator. Has never leaked before.

    COULD BE WATER PUMP ,HOSES OR A NUMBER OF OTHER ISSUES. SEEK A MECH DIAG ON WATER LEAK SOURCE

    Check for leaking intake manifold! Near thermostat.

    I agree with both #1and#2 if you pressure test system see if anti freeze is leaking on the ground if not could be a head gasket
