Water pump/ timing belt. on 1996 Dodge Stratus

Is it critical to change the timing belt when changing the water pump. This vehicle is a beater and dosn't travel far from home. I would just like to get maybe another year out of it.

highly reccomended since you are right there. it would be a shame if there was an issue after the water pump was done and you had to it again and maybe more if the valves get bent. Roy

I agree with Roy while you're in there change the water pump. Why do the same job again if the pump goes out. You should also consider changing the belt tensioner as well.
