When driving my Toyota Tercel when slowing down or to make a turn my engine light and battey light comes on and the car wants to cut off.

  This is probably related to an ignition or fuel trim problem, and I'd recommend taking it to a shop for a diagnosis. These can be complex problems to fix in older vehicles, and you'll want someone experienced to chase it down. The check engine light is hopefully throwing a trouble code, which will help with pinning down the problem.
