The auto stop / start feature of the engine may fail, as the starter motor fuse may blow and the engine may not restart. Dealers will replace the starter motor fuse with a higher amperage fuse free of charge to resolve the concern.
Certain vehicles equipped with 5-cylinder engine are being recalled because the driver may not be properly warmed of a low engine oil pressure condition. Without proper warning the driver could continue to operate the vehicle until it stalls due to engine failure. Dealers will update the vehicle's software so the driver is alerted should there be a low oil pressure situation.
The windshield wipers may run continuously and the headlights, high beams and turn signals may not operate due to the malfunction of the central electronic module. Dealers will upgrade the module software free of charge to resolve the concern.
A manufacturing defect within the Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) control unit may lead to an inadvertent deployment of the seat belt pretensioner and/or inflatable curtain. If the seat belt pretensioner and/or inflatable side curtain deploy without cause, the driver could be distracted and the driver's visibility could be reduced, increasing the risk of a crash. These vehicles have not been sold and the SRS control unit will be replaced prior to the cars being sold. The Volvo recall number is 257.
A software error within the Central Electronic Module (CEM) will result in the "TPMS Service Required" message appearing after approximately 15 minutes of accumulated driving over 25 mph. The error will prevent the TPMS from warning the driver that a tire needs air. Underinflated tires can result in tire overloading and overheating, which could lead to a blowout and possible crash. Dealers will reprogram the CEM to correct this concern. The Volvo recall number is 256.
A computer software error may prevent the transmission from downshifting, such as shifting from fifth to fourth gear when coasting. This can result in decreased engine RPMs and possible engine stall, increasing the risk of a crash. Dealers will upgrade the software to the transmission control module to correct this concern. The incorrect mixture and over application of the underbody coating can result in rigid, icicle-like areas hanging from the undercarriage. Over time, this rough surface can damage the fuel lines, resulting in a fuel leak and increasing the risk of a fire. Dealers will inspect the undercarriage; if excessive coating is found in the fuel line area, it will be removed and damaged fuel lines will be replaced. The Volvo recall number is R251.
The wire harness under the front seats may not have been secured properly to the seat frame. As a result, when the seats are moved to adjust the seating position, the wire harness may be pulled, causing it to disconnect. In the event of a crash, the front and/or side impact airbags may deploy improperly or not at all, increasing the risk of personal injury. Also, the lap belt pretensioner may not deploy. Dealers will inspect and secure the affected harness as necessary to correct this concern. The Volvo recall number is 250.
Certain vehicles equipped with an optional spare tire and wheel kit were assembled with the incorrect tire pressure information label. A misprinted label could lead to improper tire inflation, which could result in a tire failure, increasing the risk of a crash. Dealers will inspect the affected vehicles and replace the incorrect label as necessary. The Volvo recall number is R247.
The power steering return hose may be incorrectly routed. This can result in increased pressure in the power steering system. The return hose may burst at the steering gear as a result of the increased pressure, resulting in a loss of power steering fluid. The driver may experience a sudden loss of power steering assist, increasing the risk of a crash. Dealers will inspect the routing of the power steering return hose and perform repairs as necessary.
