Power Steering Hose May Rupture
Some vehicles have a power steering hose that may rupture because of a manufacturing defect. If the hose ruptures, there would be a rapid loss of power steering fluid and power steering assist, increasing the risk of a crash.
We at RepairPal have designated this a high priority recall; the power steering hose may rupture without warning. Please contact your Volvo dealer. They will check to see if your specific vehicle is affected and advise you on what to do next. Always have your vehicle identification number (VIN) handy when you call.
Some vehicles have a power steering return hose that may rupture because a section was not vulcanized properly. If the hose ruptures, there would be a rapid loss of power steering fluid and loss of power steering assist, increasing the risk of a crash. Dealers will inspect and replace the steering return line assembly. The recall began July, 2008. The Volvo recall number is 201.

STEERING:HYDRAULIC POWER ASSIST:HOSE, PIPING, AND CONNECTIONS
VOLVO IS RECALLING MY 2008-2009 VEHICLES. A SECTION OF THE POWER STEERING RETURN LINE HOSE WAS NOT PROPERLY VULCANIZED (CURED) AND DOES NOT MEET SPECIFICATIONS. IF THE POWER STEERING RETURN HOSE FAILS, A SUDDEN RUPTURE OF THE HOSE CAN OCCUR.
THIS CAN RESULT IN A RAPID DRAINAGE OF THE POWER STEERING FLUID IN THE SYSTEM AND A COMPLETE LOSS OF POWER ASSISTANCE, INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH.
DEALERS WILL INSPECT AND REPLACE THE STEERING RETURN LINE HOSE ASSEMBLY FREE OF CHARGE. THE RECALL IS EXPECTED TO BEGIN DURING JULY 2008. OWNERS MAY CONTACT VOLVO AT 1-800-458-1552.
