Several issues occur with the door locks on the Volvo C70 and most are because of the door lock assembly. What happens is that one door will not lock while the other one does. In other cases you will lock the doors and then one of the doors will immediately unlock.
The problem is that the door lock assembly is defective and will need replacement. Replacement of this assembly on the C70 is very difficult and is not recommended by a novice. Getting the door and window aligned properly so that you don't get air or water leaks is very, very difficult.
Knocking noises going over bumps can be caused by worn sway bar end links. These end links have small ball joints that become loose and rattle. Replacement is the only fix.
A refrigerant leak may develop from the AC evaporator causing the AC to blow warm air. Verifying failure of this component is difficult. A good shop will use leak detection dye to verify a failing evaporator.
The convertible top may have problems with the micro-switches and potentiometers that help control the raising and lowering of the top.
The sun visor can break at the hinge area, causing the visor to fall down. This break can also cause the interior lights to stay on all the time, draining the battery. Disconnecting the visor will stop the lights from draining the battery, but the visor will need to be replaced to address this problem properly.
One or more of the power windows may stop working due to a failed master window switch. Our technicians tell us a failed switch will require replacement.
The evaporative emissions system has problems with the purge valve, tank pressure sensor, and the fuel cap. All of these failed components will cause the check engine light to illuminate. To prevent turning on the check engine light accidentally, make sure the fuel cap is installed correctly after re-fueling
The anti-lock brake system (ABS) Control Unit has a high failure rate. When this fault occurs, the ABS light will illuminate and codes may be stored indicating a problem with the ABS Pump Motor, or Wheel Speed Sensors, but the problem is the ABS Control Module.
Other symptoms may include an illuminated Check Engine and transmission shift light. and the speedometer may stop working as well.
Note: The brake system will operate normally however during a panic stop the Anti Lock Brakes will not work and the wheels may lock-up, causing a lack of vehicle control under these situations.
Front upper strut mounts may wear prematurely, resulting in loud noise from the front of the vehicle when going over bumps.
Door window regulator failures have been reported. These vehicles have a very complex door window mechanism that can be very difficult to adjust properly after installing a new window regulator. This can lead to air leaks, wind noise, and a door that doesn't open or close properly. This is a good time to find an experienced Volvo mechanic!
Several complaints have been reported regarding Volvo C70 transmission shifting issues. Long shift times between gear shifts, hard shifting, hard downshifting and a loss of transmission operation all together to name a few.
If the issue is minor, a transmission software update may fix this issue so if available, the software should be updated before any repairs are made.
There are several technical service bulletins (TSB's) available from Volvo that address these shifting issues and they should be consulted by the repair shop during the automatic transmission diagnostic process.

If the check engine light is on and diagnostic trouble codes point to the air pump system, then the entire system needs to be checked.
There are a few issues that arise from the vacuum lines becoming plugged or disconnected but the most common issue is the air pump itself fails. The reason the air pump often fails is from a defective air pump check valve that allows exhaust gasses to contaminate the pump.Replacement of the air pump and check valve is necessary to address this issue.
One thing to be aware of: If the problem is not addressed eventually these exhaust gasses can contaminate the MAF Sensor and Oxygen Sensors as well, causing the engine to run very poorly and cost much more to fix.
The battery B+ cable has problems with the terminal end necessitating replacement. Symptoms may include no start, cranks wont start, warning lights coming on and other odd electrical issues. The B+ cable end is located in the engine compartment fuse box near the drivers side shock tower.
