RepairPal Expert Overview
Our Quick Take:
An electrical concern in the direct-shift transmission can result in a stall like condition.
What Should You Do?
Volkswagen will notify owners beginning December 6, 2013. If you don't receive notification and you feel you should, please contact your dealer for further instruction. They may ask for your vehicle identification number (VIN), so please have it handy when you call. The Volkswagen recall number is 34F6/4V.
Certain vehicles produced with the DQ-200 direct-shift transmission are being recalled because the fluid additive used in the transmission could cause corrosion of the internal components. This corrosion can cause an electrical short resulting in a stall like condition. A sudden loss of engine power would increase the risk of a crash. Dealers will replace the transmission oil with a non-corrosive version to correct this concern.
