2001 Ford Focus

Question: Vibration in steering wheel when starting engine cold.

Question

Visitor, 2.0L 4 Cylinder DOHC, Sequim, WA, March 06, 2011, 22:11

when starting the cold engine a small vivration can be felt in the steering wheel & other places. When the transmission shifts into 3rd or 4th geer at 30 to 35 mph the vibration is quite pronounced. After 5 to 10 miles of driving it all smoths out. The Ford garage installed new spark plugs & wires but no change. They said the motor mounts checked ok. Any body out their with a similar experience?

The right side motor mount is collapsed. It is very difficult to see any failure, but trust me, we have repaired many, many Focus vibrations by replacing the mount.

Thanks Brian. That was my thought also. I will take your info back to the ford dealership mechanics. Is it the upper mount on the right side setting in the car or one of the bottom mounts?
