Question: Vibration at 65 to 70 mph

Question

Visitor, 3.8L V6, Coppell, TX, December 28, 2010, 20:03

I have a vibration that occurs when i get to speeds of 65 to 75 mph. This will stop immediately when i let off the acclerator. It almost reminds me of a worn U joint in the older cars with rear wheel drive. Technology has passed me by and i am not sure if front wheel drives even use U joints any more. The transmission seems to be fine, shifts without slippiing. Any ideas what this could be? Wheels have been balanced recently.

Hard to say without being able to experience it first hand. Do you feel it in the steering or body?
Try jacking up the front of the car and spin the wheels do they spin true no weaving side to side up or down, if so have the rear tires balanced and moved to the front see if the problem goes away.
Could be many things, Have seen a bad axle, suspension wear, or engine mounts give this problem but usually tire related.

I feel it all through the car. My son could feel this when he was a passenger in the front seat. I will follow your suggestions. Hope it is the tires as you mentioned. Thanks
