I have a '95 Acura Integra LSS (1.8L, non-vtec, dohc). Recently, my timing belt broke and was replaced by a craigslist mechanic who did not properly align the timing marks. The car stalls out almost immediately. I suspect that there may be damage to the valves now. The original engine has 152,000 miles. What repairs am I "probably" looking at and what would be a reasonable estimate for the work based on the symptoms. The belt is knew but, I know it has to be re-installed. It is probable the the valves are bent now because it is an interference engine. I live in Hollywood, FL.

To re-set the belt, is about 2 hours of labor. then you can do a compression test to see if the valves are sealing as well as check the valve clearance, these valves get tight often. If you do need to rebuild the head, it is about $2000 to do it correctly, assuming no parts of the head were cracked when the belt snapped. You can check this with a cylinder head pressure test when the head is off.
