cam cover gaskets and hardware bushings harden with time and oil leaks unto hot exhaust manifold causing burning oil smell. Oil leaking past gasket will also spill into spark plug wells and fill them with engine oil when leak is severe. Solution is to replace gaskets. Kits are available which include all gaskets needed for both sides. I recommend using a high temp silicone based caulk in addition to the new gaskets to ensure long life of repair. Make sure all metal mating surfaces are cleared of any oil using gasoline solvent, carb cleaner or mineral spirits before applying silicone caulk. It took me about 5 hours but I don't work fast
