My CLK has begun to use too much coolant. I have had the head gasket replaced and no cracks in head. Radiator been compression tested and no leaks apparent. The car uses up to 1.5 litres in one town trip. So using about 2-3 litres a week. Where is the water going?

Sounds like the head gasket job hasn't sealed very well or the block has a hairline crack and the coolant/water mix is entering the cylinder or block, Napa has a chemical test device that will turn color if exhaust gases are present.

Have you replaced the thermostat might be sticking/binding..also check/replace pressure cap.. check overflow tank and hose for leak.. pressure check whole system for leaks in hoses including heater hoses.
