I bought my SW2 Saturn with 54,000 miles on it and it always used oil from the beginning. Now at 120,000 miles,it uses one quart every 1500 miles.I have learned that it is normal for this type of engine to us oil. Is this an excesive amount. It still gets 30 to 33 mpg and it doesn't seem to blow any smoke.

I don't think a qt every 1500 miles is really excissive but you do have to watch it to be sure you don't run low on oil. I don't know if you have any oil leaks, that'd be a factor in oil consumption. I don't think I'd do anything about it except for checking oil leakage. FYI, dirty oil diappears faster than clean oil, in case you are slow on oil changes. Also make sure you're not using too light a grade of oil. I'd recommend 10-40 oil for an engine of that type and mileage.

My 1999 Saturn SW2 owners manual recommends to use 10-30 oil for that engine. With 120,000 Miles on it , and using a Qt. of oil every 1500 miles with no leaks, is it really Ok to run it with 10-40 oil ?
using 1 qt. about every 2to3 wks, no smoke at start up, but after take off from lights and stop signs, and after idleing for awhile lots of strange smelling bluish smoke from tail pipe, haven't not...
