About a year ago, anytime I turned on the windshield defroster I would hear a clacking noise, but when I turned it on the setting to for defrost and to blow thru the vents it would not make the noise, so I just defrosted the windshield in that setting. Then it started making a loud whirring noise when I had the ac blower on. I just tried drowning it out by turning up the radio. Eventually, the air only blew out when it was on the highest level, and then still barely. The air came out of the vents cool. Yesterday it quit blowing altogether..and there still is a very quiet hum when I turn it on. I can feel the slightest amount of cool air in the vents. Is this the blower, or something else? BTW, it is hotter than Hades in TX right now. I think from other forums I could replace the blower on my own, just need to confirm that is what is.
I have a Cavalier that had the same problem TWICE. It is a bad instrument cluster. Replacing it will fix both problems. The first time the cluster went out my gas gauge acted like a tachometer. I have read on other forums that this is a common problem in the Cavalier.
