Could mean several different issues; mine did the same at first then the service engine icon would come on intermittely from day to day or whenever. You need to have your mechanic do a test to see what codes come up. Mine was the transmission torque converter seal. I elected not to have the dealership rebuild my transmission just service it (no metal in the old fluid) I lived with it for 6 years until my transmission started slipping 3 months ago. I was lucking the slip was only when I was in OD. I just had the work done this week and she is driving like a new car!
small engine oil leak. 127K miles. Told it was the lower block seal needs to be replaced. Engine has to come out. Around $1600 job. I have low oil consumption have to put in 1 to 1 1/2 quarts between oil changes 3000-4500 miles. It is in shop now having a new re-build transmission put in costing me $3000. My husband about chocked when I told him this... My husband made it quit clear I had to drive this car for another 3-5 years. The transmission problem dealer advised me 6 years ago at 78k miles; but no symptoms and I didn't want to spend the $3500 they wanted to charge me; so I just had the system flushed they didn't find any metal shaving. I started having issues 3 months ago (the torque converter seal gone intermittingly slipping out of overdrive. Running at 2000rpms at 70mph jumping to 2800 rpms; I would let off the gas to bring down the rpms and slowing accelerate back to 70mph) The car needs a paint job too. I didn't want to buy another car; I would have to down size and really don't have the money for a monthly car payment for at least another year! I bought this car 9 years ago from my mother in law estate after her passing it had only 56k little old lady miles on it. I can't afford to replace the same style of car. Is it worth to keep spending money???
Hi Guys , I have come to this site toget an idea what the cost would be on a rebuilt transmission I guess, AnywayMy 96 Seville sls has had service engine light, trac light (on and off)and service transmission message for six years now . When it first started I had the transmision drained, no metal shaving; but was told by the Cadillac dealership shop that I needed to have my transmission rebuilt at the time car only had 76k that the Torque convertor seal was leaking. Well I didn't do anything else other than have it flushed and new fluid. Now six year later and 51k mile (127k miles now on her) and the service Transmission light message stays on and SERVICE ENGINE LIGHT stay on and I think she has started slipping out of overdrive. When I get onto the interstate and run 70mph for about 2 miles in overdrive at 2100 rpms the rpms race up to 3000, I let off the gas, rpms come down I accelerate again and I'm fine. It doesn't do it all the time and then it's intermittently. Some days it doesn't do it at all. Today I took my car to the mom and pop shop across from work and had them run a scan they are getting the codes P0741 & P1574. Same codes Advance Auto got but were free and Pop charged me $50 go figure! Pop said I could let it go until she gives out completely or go have it rebuilt. I just don'tunderstand, I guess being a girl why does the transmission need to be replace; why aren't going to fix mine, replace the seals, the solenoids and stuff and put it back in? They will replace it so why do they call it a rebuilt job? I just get a bad taste in my mouth; look six years ago they wanted me to spend $3500; glad I held off! Can you help? She also has a small oil leak back of the engine area which could be taken care of at the same time the trans work is being done right? The engine does burn oil about a quart between oil hanges (told that was normal for the Northstar engine). Update: Over the weekend I decided not to let off the as and see what would happen if I pushed her, not good, it was like it wasn't the transmission at all like she was misfiring rpms were up at 3000 at 75mph but she was surging jerking...I had all plugs & plugwires replaced about 20k miles ago? Could this be a misfire? If so shouldn't the mechanic got a code on this too? Or is this the reason for the second code P1574? God what is a girl to do to find a good mechanic these days she can trust? I'm not stupid but why do all shops what to keep you in the dark? I know they only see people when something is broke and we need em to fix it but come on don't take us to the cleaners! I really want her to be in good health I would like to keep her on the road for another 100k, instead of buying another car I would like to spend the money on her running like new, new paint is this a good idea I just need to find a good mechanic in south georgia!
if you have a 1996 Cadillac Seville sls components or regulators beneath the pasenger seat have nothing to do with your trunk closing issues? the trunk has its own mechnical parts, truck release and pull down parts, best to go to the GM parts web site to verify the parts you need before buying the wrong item. Will the trunk release when you push the release button on your dash & or key fob? Will the Trunk lid engage but not pull down to complete the closing? GM will sale you the complete kit for $350 but I bought the complete kit used from ebay for $70
