Thanks for the last answer. Couple days ago i started hearing noises from the front of the car (creaking, whining noises) when I turn the steering wheel. It happens after I drive 10-11 miles. The noises start slowly but it gets real loud and annoying after a while. I checked the power steering fluid. Its adequate, and there is no big leaks of power steering fluid. I see a couple drops every few days where i park the car.(also i never changed the fluid after i brought the car 2 years ago). The noises ONLY come after I drive a little bit. I guess something is overheating or something. Maybe power steering pump? Thanks
My 2001 Bmw 740il has now 149000 miles on it. I replaced my old tranny with a used one (has about 65K miles) at 130000 miles. The old one failed. Do you know how often am I supposed to do the tranny fluid service? BMW says it is a lifetime fluid and no fluid exchange necessary. But I doubt it. Any ideas? Thanks for the last answer
I have a 2004 bmw 740il with 146000 miles. I replaced the transmission with a used one at 130000 miles (the original failed). Now the problem is when I first start driving the car in the morning, especially when it is cold, the tranny makes noise (like something is scratching) when it shifts from 1st to 2nd gear. It is clearly audible from outside and inside the car. There is no noise when the car warms up, like driving after a minute or two. There is no transmission oil leaks or anything. I hear this noise for the last couple months. I hope you can figure this one out. Thanks
Thanks for the answer, but my electric fan in front of the radiator also sounds abnormally (more like a helicopter) when comes on. I checked the fan and it does not seem to have any problems on sight. The sound is very annoying. I also saw the same thing on a couple of old cars (4-8 yrs old. one was nissan altima). What might be the problem?
When the cooling fan kicks in it is making an abnormal sound (since i bought the car in May 2009). It is very loud compared to other vehicles. But the engine is not overheating or anything. Is there anything wrong with the fan clutch?
