This one is a Doozy! HELP!!! The car in the winter had great heat, no problems. then when it warmed up I noticed the radiator leaking,,,replaced that, then the car temp guage would start to rise above the mid line,,,then the car was asking for more antifreeze,,, so I put antifreeze in and when I got into traffic it started to show steam coming from my engine,, so low and behold,,I saw my reservoir had a hole in it,, got a new one,, then,,the new reservoir was spitting antifreeze out of the seam when temp would go over mid line in traffic,, so I got another new one,,,same thing....Now I start to think of other things,,replaced thermostat last year, new reservoir cap a few weeks ago, new temp guage today,,,still the same!!! What the F@#K else could it be??? If i put on the AC the damn fans come on and all is good in the world but with current gas prices and travel in the cool mornings I dont want the AC on!!! I am at a loss, is there any way to wire a switch to manually turn the fans on? If so how and where> I need help on this one cuz I travel long distances and get into traffice often. ALL HELP WOULD BE GREAT!!
My car has the red BRAKE light on and most people have said that the emergency brake sensor is either not working or broken. If anyone can tell me where it is (a picture of what it looks like would also help if ya got it) I think that it is obviously where the emergency brake is...but it is hard to see. thanks in advance
My wifes car has 150k miles and has not had it timing belt replaced. I know from this awesome site and all you great mechanics that it should be replaced at 90k...my question is "How hard is this to do myself(I am not a mechanic but went to school for mechanical(airplanes etc) and have worked on cars a few years) Is that the belt (outside) of the engine on the left hand side with black cover over it and if it is outside what are the difficultys to do it? help
Basically, these two things I believe are not related and just an amazing coincidence....the toyota siennas have an annoying little problem with leaves and acorns and such,,, this sounds like a leaf.. getting into the blower for the cabin air,,,if you turn blower off,,,sound will go away--open the glove box, sqeeze the sides and should drop down further,, then with the car OFF remove cabin air filter and reach down inside with your fingers slowly spin the fan and you will find and acorn or leaf or whatever,,,,the check engine light "automatically and conviently comes on at certain intervals (to get you to go to the dealership) for oil changes and such, someone probably changed your oil and did not reset the timer,,,so to reset the light if still on... press and Hold the trip reset and turn the key to the position JUST before the position that turns the van on and all lights will come on,,,you should see 5 or 6 lines on the trip display,,, they start to flash and reduce in number till they all disappear... then your check engine is all set for about 3 to 5 thousand miles or so.. if it keeps coming on, then you may have a problem but, i believe these to be UN related. good luck
OMG why is the OBVIOUS(sic) the place nobody starts!!!!ARGHHHHH If you open your glove compartment door then sqeeze the sides it should drop down to expose a large black blower motor,,, which has your cabin air filter, it is square and you can just slide it out, it will have Leaves, acorns and whatever on it,,,NOW,, with the car OFF put your hand in there and feel and spin it and most likely you will feel and acorn or rock or stick or leaf all kinds of stuff. The way to check this is turn blower off--no noise--turn on ---noise returns! I have seen where car sits in summer or spring and little field mice store their fine cuisine there,,,what a pain!! gottta pull acorns out of there almost weekly
It has always been a KNOCKING sound when turning,, should not be bad this early... look carefully at them and check for cracks,,if no cracks should be ok.
THIS YOUR LUCKY DAY!!! My wife had this problem and it is a manufacturers RECALL or notice, whatever they call it, they will fix FREEEEEEE! unfortunely it will come back about a year later unless you are very gentle.bill
THIS I am an expert in,, got the burn marks to prove it!! The low or side you want to put the freon in is the BLUE cap, the other one I think is yellow and is much bigger. It is located behind the motor,,you can see it near the firewall if you stand on the passenger side of the car near the tire and look down and to the left,, its about a footish down so may have to push some stuff away to see it... problem with putting freon in is,, car has to be running and if you put too much in, car will make a huge banging sound when it gets real hot and then u lose cool for a bit, in this case you gotta let some out (not really legal,,,but) It is a major B**ch to get it on correctly so get a few,,sometimes good idea to get the one with the flurescent stuff to see where you are losing it,,hopefully you have no air in the lines as well.
Unfortunately, on your steering wheel there are two wires that touch when you press the horn,,BUT the bad part is that the air bag is also right behind it,,,,find the wires and buy a press switch,, its really cheap. BILL
I am sure there are a few but, I only have seen ONE. As you stand in front of the car it is on the extreme right and almost touches the steering pump. good luck
And justly you should be,,, best guess is it may not be the switch but more likely the wires touching, My airbags deployed and when you look inside--the two Flaps that are together on center of steering wheel have a wire on each side and two thin metal pieces that touch each other when middle or wherever,,,,is pushed to sound horn,,,so it sounds like either these wires are now touching behind the plastic (like maybe they fell inside one on top of the other or they are touching somewhere else. You probably will have to find the wires and cut them and go to an autostore or Radio shack, lowes whatever and just by a horn switch,,,,very cheap $3-5 dollars--this can be mounted anywhere and you will pass inspection...otherwise enjoy the quite and be more patient!!! lol:))
Basically,. a no brainer,,,with a catch!! It sounds like your Heater core inside your car is either broken or the valve that lets the hot water from the engine is not opening. Either way the heater core is a job to get to. It is located behind the dash roughly near where the brake pedal is,, the hoses to it from the engine go thru the firewall into cabin,,see if those hoses are hot or not,,,think both should be pretty hot if not may not be going into car and back out,,,,,one more thing first, check for any broken fuses on both sides of the dash and in the engine compartment. best wishes. let me know
If you dont see coolant on clean driveway,, you have serious problem...either it is leaking into engine (usually see white smoke or steam out tailpipe) OR your heater core which sound more likely since you have steam inside the car.
The brake red warning light goes on randomly,,I did notice the emergency brake seems to go to the floor when i press it but, otherwise the brakes work fine. A few times I noticed the brake pedal jump slightly when I pushed it down,,,this happened only twice in the past, been cold out..help
My car seems to start to overheat when in traffic, I recently replaced the coolant reservoir with new one because of same problem but, still heats up. I replaced the thermostat last summer and the fuse for the 2 fans in good (the fans come on randomly-not sure what makes them go on. The cars heat is good, AC fair in summer. coolant level good. New coolant, radiator and condenser replaced about a year ago,, It seems to rise to about the 3/4 mark till it makes me nervous and I blast the heat. anyone????
