You need somebody to have hands on to help you with this. Using starting fluid to start with, I wouldn't touch it. Cannot advise over internet, this car has to be diagnosed with the car presented to a hands on diagnosis.

Should be on the transaxle end, where the cable mounts in the bracket, at the shift lever.
You need the water pump holding tool, it will hold the sprocket in place. Or you can just remove the pump and then have to retime it. Get a tool.
Can it read the transfer case module, some scanners can't. That's where the answer would be.
When you turn it off it will blow hot air; Do you turn the key back on, or as it shuts down. Explain
Have your battery tested, leave a jump box or something to maintain some power before battery is disconnected, or try jump start, charging the battery
