I linkage might have failed but its probably the transmission, need to have a trans tech check this.
More automatic transmissions are damaged by improper towing, If the manual says not to tow , I wouldn't take a chance because the trans costs 2 to 3 thousand to repair.

Sounds like the starter is bad but I see a starter relay available for your vehicle also, need to have a tech check this.
Sounds like one of your valve cover gaskets are leaking engine oil onto your exhaust and smoking.

Sounds like the alternator has failed or one cell in the battery is dead need to have a tech put a meter on the charging system to test the battery and alternator.
