There are many different things that can cause this "symptom" of not going over 5 miles per hour. Does the engine run strong and RPM's high, if so this would potentially indicate a transmission or drive line problem. If the engine will barely run and has no power that would be an engine problem. This vehicle is a hybrid Cadillac and Saab platform and requires some specialty tooling to perform allot of the repairs. I would recommend having the vehicle scanned first. The check engine light may be related to the not wanting to fill up when fueling concern your having as well. The relation could be in the evaporative emissions system. There is what is called a vent and a purge valve that are supposed to allow fuel vapors to be contained and when vented through the charcoal canister and when purged back into the intake to burn again. Just do not clear the code as that will not fix anything, but will remove all the data that a repair shop could use to help diagnose the problem if it is an intermittent issue. On some models there is a variable fan speed control module that is common to go bad. 1st, If you vehicle is equipped with automatic Climate Control (you set the temp digitally and the fan automatically adjusts)the speed is controlled by a blower speed control module. This could be the problem, or the climate control head or temp sensor could be commanding the fan to falsely run high all the time. Would recommend to take somewhere that has factory diagnosis scan tools to communicate to the BCM to identify the failure. 2nd, Temp gauge jumping from hot to cold and a smell of coolant sounds like a low cooling system that is boiling, when system is cool recommend to verify proper level. If level is good it could be a circulation problem. Again recommend to have a diagnosis performed, not a straight forward symptom. As stated earlier verify that the oil level is good, current on oil change interval and check your receipt of last oil change and make sure that the proper weight / viscosity was used. If all those are accurate you would want to have a qualified technician perform a diagnosis so that you don't start replacing unneeded components. This wiper set up on your vehicle is different than most. It has a wiper motor, linkage and a pivot assm. Usually if you can hear and see a slight movement it is that the motor is working but restricted by a seized pivot assm. Sometimes you can remove, clean corrosion (aluminum oxidation) and lubricate and get working. other times it is too deteriorated and needs to be replaced. Also be warned that the wiper motor has been "stressed" by this restriction in movement and can become damaged. If it is still working after freed up it may have a reduced life due to the stress and die out soon after. This can all be evaluated by a qualified technician. All of the reply's are accurate. Your fuel tank sender may not be reading 100% accurate, but is close enough. You never want to run your tank too low anyway as the gas in the tank also acts keeps your fuel pump cool and lubricated, when you run your tanks close to empty and there is not enough fuel to help perform those functions helps in the premature failure of fuel pumps. I don't think that you currently have a problem, but run your tank consistently below 5 gallons and you soon may! As always, any further questions please feel free to call or stop by. Pushrod is right on, if that does not fix it and the latch just seems to be no "latching" it could be a internal latch failure, or the linkage that goes to the latch from the handle or lock actuator has become stiff or seized and holding the latch in the "open" position. If that is the case you would need to have the interior panel removed to gain access to all the linkage. There are alot of special fasteners, unless you have the special pry tools you may want to leave this to the professionals to help prevent damage to the interior panel occurring. If all of those electrical components cut out at the same time it has to be something that supplies power to all of them. If you checked fuses and they were good, it could be a relay, electrical connection, or a computer module fault or failure. That vehicle communicates on a CAN bus, if anything fails on the bus, it can sometimes take down a portion, or the whole thing. You will need a diagnosis by a professional repair center to figure that one out. They will also need to have the ability to re- flash / program control units as well.
