I hear a clunking sound on the first brake application. If I put car in reverse, I hear a clunk on first brake application. If I put car in drive, I hear a clunk on first break application. Only the first time I apply the brake do I hear a clunk/pop, no sound thereafter... until I drive in the opposite direction and apply the brake for the first time. Took to dealer. Told him I've been hearing the sound since new, but has gotten much worse at 40K and service manager says he's heard of this complaint before and it is simply the pads moving in the caliber. I paid to have tech look at it and sure enough the recommendation was "no problem", this sound is normal on 2008 corrolla and is just the the pads moving in the caliber. This sound is evident to passengers and pedestrians who are alarmed... sounds unsafe... any ideas?
