You must check the basics: Fuel pressure and spark. If you get none of them , possible crank sensor.

If smoke comes from inside engine when oil cap is removed, then piston rings are allowing blow by gas through them. If this is the case, time to rebuild engine.

Intake Air Temperature sensor are located along from air filter housing to throttle body. Some vehicles have separate sensors, others have the sensor built inside the Mass air flow sensor. A wiring diagram of the vehicle will point you in the right direction.

Get vehicle to read codes, and freeze frame data in order to diagnose problem.

You have to determine if alternator diodes are in good condition. Test is done with an oscilloscope and monitoring the "ripples" after AC voltage is been rectified by the diodes. A complete diagnostics of charging system must be performed to determine the problem.

This engines will develop vacuum leaks around intake manifold gaskets, pcv hoses and pcv seal. Rough idle and codes for lean condition will be stored in ECM. Do not replace oxygen sensors until the lean condition is corrected and a oxygen sensor performance test is performed.

First battery must be charged and load tested for at least 30 minutes. A battery that is 3 years or older may develop a bad cell, creating this kind of problem. Get battery tested at a repair shop close to your location.
Problem Reported: Timing chain Rattle after engine off for a while.
