BMWs use 2 pumps a returning pump and a sending pump the one that goes bad is the sending pump, the pump is right under the rear seats the sending pump is right behind the driver seat, the best way to test it is to purge the fuel rail manually do it about 2 times with the switch one, make sure to have a rag to stop the gasoline from spraying all over you if the sending pump is bad after purging the valve a couple of times it wont spray, check the fuel pump relay before changing the pump.
it sounds like the crankshaft or camshaft sensors, but it could be many other things i would hook the car up to a scan tool autozone can diagnose your car for free.
Did you check if the spark plugs have the proper gap ? take the plugs out and check for proper clearance make you not to drop the spark plugs when you put then back in the car.
is the check engine light on? do you have a local autozone around you they will diagnose the vehicle for free. i could be many things a code reader will narrow down the problem.
if the engine light is blinking it means the car is trying to give you a code observe the light and count how many times it flashes it should stop with a small pause then flash again, if the flashes 3 times then it pauses your first number is 3 write down to code and look it up and reply here.

I would check the fuse first, it could be the horn switch on the steering wheel, the horn itself, the wiring in between or the fuse. Do you have a factory alarm or aftermarket.
