This vehicle began having a problem starting in April 09 and after several repair attempts at three different Mercury/Ford dealerships, the problem still exists. The first two times it was taken to North Shore Lincoln Mercury in Peabody, MA (now closed) and nothing was done, they couldn't find the problem. The third time at NSLM they replaced the alternator. The problem continued. Then it got really bad in May 10 where everyday I was stranded because it wouldn't start everytime so that was when I found out that NSLM suddenly shut down-no further info, no advance notice. So I brought it to Danvers Ford and they replaced the starter. The no-start problem continued. Then I called the 800 Lincoln Mercury number and was connected with the Ford Customer Solutions Team. I was asked to bring it back to Danvers Ford. After FOUR WEEKS there, they finally found a "bad relay" and reapaired that. Yet the problem still continued. On the Fourth of July my 3 yr-old and I were stranded in a parking lot in the middle of the afternoon. Once again, I called Roadside Assistance (they have a record of nineteen jump-starts for my mountaineer)and an hour later arrived to jumpstart the vehicle. Then I called the Better Business Bureau Autoline and they set up communications with Ford and a new dealership, Thomas Ford where the vehicle was scheduled to be seen by a Special Ford Engineer. It was determined the the battery was bad and was replaced. That very evening with the vehicle home in my garage, it wouldn't start again. After going back through the BBB and their request from Ford for further action, Ford took the position to offer no further assistance. I have been stranded three times in the last week and today was in a parking lot in 100 degree heat with my 3 yr-old becoming overheated waiting for Roadside Assistance. Why can't this be fixed??
