Question: upshift light comes on in automatic

At 30mph on up the suv was revving high but not going any faster. The engine upshift light cam on, but its an automatic. When it did go into one more gaer it clunked. Carmax received numerous codes, sent it to a Volvo dealer who said the codes were wrong it was the spark plugs misfiring. Does that sound plausible explanation for those symptoms? I am under the 5 day return policy still.

    This sounds like the transmission was having an issue, and they don't appear to be telling you the complete story. That may be an issue with Carmax or the dealer they took it to, hard to say without seeing the codes they pulled from the computers in the vehicle. If you have the opportunity to get out of this deal, I would seriously consider it, replacing a transmission on this vehicle will be very expensive in the event that is what is wrong, and chances increase greatly when you have symptoms like you experienced.
    If you do decide to keep it, go to a Volvo Dealer and see if you can purchase a VIP Extended warranty from Volvo, it's the best available for your Volvo.

    Here are the codes they listed from the Volvo dealer- ECM P030000, P030100, P030300, P0304000. The technician noted multiple misfire, spark plugs faulty. technician replaced, cleared codes and test drove. I just picked it up and no problems right now.

    Well those are all misfire codes that could definitely be caused by spark plugs. Seems odd, they normally don't have issues unless they weren't replaced at the 60,000 mile service (assuming it has this many miles).
    I would drive it for a few days and make sure it is OK before the 5 days is up, and request that you get another 5 days because of the troubles you've already had.
    If you do go for it, you'll love this vehicle, it's very nice. Please do consider the VIP warranty though.
