Upper Front Ball Joints on 2004 Ford Explorer

The rubber boots on my upper front ball joints are deteriorating on both sides. Appears to be made of inferior material. Is there a "replacement" boot or does the ball joint have to be replaced. AND if the ball joint has to be replaced does the entire Control Arm have to be replaced also. Thanks

The rubber boots on ball joints are not generally replaced, the complete ball joint should be replaced. The upper and lower ball joints on your 2004 Ford Explorer are replaceable. Unless they are damaged there should be no need to replace the control arms.
