The airbag warning light may illuminate erroneously.  This can be caused by and internal defect in the control module. Replacement of the airbag control module with a revised part may be necessary to correct this concern.

my wife just told me the air bag light has been staying on for about the past three days, the light comes on when the key is in acc. position, then when started it will go out for a few seconds the come back on and stay on. my only concern is if the airbag might deploy at any given time without reason.
i will report back if i find out how this problem is solved.

No repair effort yet. First alert was the red light on left of instrument panel illuminated; checked manual for advice. Manual commented on obvious that system should be checked. Within a few weeks, the orange alert in the middle of the dashboard read that the passenger side airbag had a problem.
