Apologize for such rambling last night . . unable to year of car on todays drop downs - used 2003 as oldest car is 1998!!!!.a few more details that occurred to me . . .the two possible suggestions I got online for non-starting were:faulty RPM sensr or faulty fuel reay . .I said guages last night . . yes it's def. electrical . . and it has to be something that has never been changed in this car . . . .Symptoms from two other non-starts form last Nov & Jan are (the alternator was replaced after these (almost $800 alt & troublshooting wirring). .and as usual everything was fine for about five months- longer than usual) and as mentioned before the symptoms always differ)
It has started on ocassion when it appears totally dead to start . . i.e. no accessory anything and I keep trying and perhaps 4th-5th time is turns over very weakly ,then catches.
Another time it was totally dead, had already called for a jump, my hood was inaccessible so was tryig to rool car out of be jumpable . .put car in neutral , the radio immeditely strated playing, turned ignition and it immediately turned over. Weird . . . And it required a radio and clock resset!!! really odd . .and i noticed that the arrow up on the dash was lit . .check to be sure in "D" and I was . .after about 30-45 seconds the arrow went out. . stopped on the way home for an errand . .car would barely turn over when turned on normally.
the general non-stop pattern is for the accessorries to come on for just 1-2 seconds, then dead.
Last major time in Had mulitple episodes in late nov- no repairs, then fine for a month . late Dec again . .fine for a week, then early Jan . .( multiple non-starts. .-that's when 3rd alternator installed) No problems til May (shop found battery dead, alternator output normal, voltage normal 13.6, no parasitic voltage loss, air mass meter replaced - they had said I needed that in Jan . .but couldn't afford then, . . .-$450) fine until July 17th prob 8 non-starts in past two.5 weeks.
Did notice twice these past 2 weeks , it was completely dead these time, I was parked on a hill,( unusual in Denver) with the front of the car elevated. both these times it took not just a quick connect- it did not catch immediatley like usual , had to accelerate and wait a bit to get the start.

Just thought I'd add this stuff . Need to get car in for that ignition electrical and will bring all my pages of info I got of internet yesterday

THanks HELP

Susan, You have done an excellent job of providing as much information as possible. I need to get a few things straight before I can give you some answers.
    Is your vehicle a 1998 V70 XC?
Do you have any aftermarket items on the vehicle? (e.g. Car Alarm, engine block heater, GPS?)
The main problem you are having is that the battery is draining, causing a no-start condition?
How long has the car been sitting when you find the battery dead?
