University Tire & Auto Center Incorporated
I do not trust this dealer because they recommend unnecessary repairs. Here are the details. We took our 1985 Volvo to this shop for a state inspection in April 2010. In April 2009 the car had passed inspection at another auto shop where we had taken our cars for 20 years. In the time of one year, this car had been driven less than 1000 miles, yet within one year, University Tire recommended over $2100 in repairs to pass state inspection. For a second opinion we took this car to a Volvo dealer in Charlottesville who found only $527 in needed repairs (mostly to replace brake hoses). University Tire (at Pantops in Charlottesville) missed obvious items like new windshield wiper blades and a headlight out of adjustment, but they required new brake pads, rotors, calipers, and brake hoses (only hoses were needed), shocks, master cylinder and other items. This in spite of the fact that the brakes had 50% wear left on the front brakes and 90% wear remaining on the rear brake pads. But because the owner said it was "a 25-year old car" that was the reasoning for replacing much of the braking system when it was obvious that much of the braking system (except for the hoses) were fine according to two other repair shops. I feel that I was treated very unfairly, that this dealer was just trying to make money, and had intentionally recommended repairs that were not necessary. I will never take a car here or to any University Tire center.
