The Service Soon Light means your car has a problem. See this article

    http://repairpal.com/check-engine-light

GM call the Check Engine Light the 'Service Engine Soon Light'
Your Caddy needs to diagnosed and repaired, it could be something very simple and cheap.

Don't confuse the Check Engine Light with the maintenance or service light. These lights illuminate when a routine service is due. They are usually triggered by mileage, gallons of gasoline consumed, or some other type of vehicle-use measurement.

Yes that will clear the codes and turn off the light, it will not correct the problem. That is why you want to write the codes down then you can look them up and fix the problem. Caddy's are ahead of thier time allowing you to read your own codes and allows you to change options on your car such as what reads out on your display, to unlock doors when car is put in park, to turn passenger mirror down when car is in reverse all sorts of choices.

press the "off" and the passenger climate "warmer" buttons on your climate control panel and hold them with ignition on the dashboard will light up and then codes will be displayed at the bottom of your speedmeter display write these codes down it will help you see what the problem is. After it cycles thru all checks it will get back to "PCM?" press the "warmer" button it will ask "codes" press the warmer buttom again it will run codes again then ask"clear codes?" press warmer button again it will clear codes, to exit turn key off or press the "off button on the climate control twice
