The fault may be with the release solenoid (or actuator) in the trunk. The proper test would be to check for power and ground to the release solenoid (or actuator)when activation the remote or the dashboard switch. If power and ground test OK then replacing the release solenoid (or actuator) in your 2003 Infiniti G35 would be the logical step.

I had this same problem; fround broken wires from the trunk to the car body inside inclosure. extended with new wires and all works fine now. The bigest issue is to make sure you match each wire when extending these, as they came too short from the factory.

My trunk release (2006 Volkswagen Jetta - large version) stuck in the OPEN position so the trunk would not lock. There was not a dealership within 4-5 hours highway drive!!! Overnight we used a rope to hold the lid down using the loops in the trunk with access via the back seats in down position (always carry a small piece of rope!) . To solve the problem (temporarily) I had to take out the trunk lid liner, remove the electric hookup, give the solenoid a couple of good twacks with a hammer (which released the solenoid) and then resumed our holiday using the "key only".

Moral of the story - don't go too far from a VW dealer unless you are self-sufficient.
