trunk release button no longer works on 2002 Toyota Echo

It feels like some kind of cable snapped. I'm afraid to take it to the dealer because they will find all kinds of things wrong with it. It has 66,000 miles on it.

What they find is good for you to know and you don't have to fix them. If trunk release is cable it can be a pain to do. If is elec button then check all connections at the trunk release actuator. Has to have power to it to activate.

The trunk release is not electric, the problem is the cable. My Toyota dealer already looked at it and wants almost $600 to fix it.
